We were going through some of grandpa Jack's motorcycle things today...

We went through some of his remaining papers (that hadn't already passed along to various family members) and I was going through some of the motorcycle items he had collected, things he was interested in... and I came across a couple of flyers...

Ural flyers. The same somewhat obscure motorcycle we rode all the way out.

Apparently Jack thought they were neat too.

Or maybe it was just his way of letting me know he approves of what we did to remember him.

We also had a small ceremony, where the box with his ashes were put into the ground and a small headstone put into place. Just some family and friends, nothing fancy. No fanfare, no circus show. A few tears, some sadness.

But some smiles and laughs too - as we remembered him, and what he was to each of us.

So long Jack - we'll see you soon, and every day. In the things we do, in the words we say, in the loves we have an the laughs we share.

Because you were the one who taught us how to do that.

We're in Sidney, about 25k outside of Victoria. Decided to just grab a hotel here and finish up tommorow morning.

(Phone got wet, may have bitten the dust - so no updates on automatic location unless it works after drying out... we shall see)

Today was an interesting day - we started out in Princeton, running through some light rain and drizze (which kept up off and on until we hit Hope... the town, not the emotion.)

We were pretty chilled from all the running up and down elevations - lots of up and down in that final stretch, but ironically at Hope the clouds opened up a bit, and things started going downhill. In a good way.

Pretty neat actually... at hope we actually rode downhill through a cloud, and then out under it. Wisps of cloud spilling out and down a steep mountainside are definitely something to see.

After that, it was a run along to the ferry terminal, a ride across to the island... and here we are.

We're had our moments of fright, our laughing moments, our speechless moments, and our moments of flat out amazement.

We've chased a memory all the way across - and Jack has been just a little bit ahead of us the whole way.

Tommorow we meet up with the family, and things come full circle.

That's where the chase ends - because in the end Jack is still there.

In each of us.

When we walked up to the main entrance to the Royal Tyrrell dinosaur museum in Drumheller, there were two greeters there with puppets. We had Katie the koala with us, and thought this would make a great photo - so we asked them.

They were VERY happy to help, posing, even making noises and action moves (something not strictly necessary when taking a photo, but I can appreciate the enthusiasm.)

We thanked them, and as we walked away I could hear one guy turn to the other and say "See? I TOLD you puppets were a good idea."

I think Katie made their day!

Hi, my name is Katie and I'm Brooke's Koala. Brooke couldn't come on this trip because she had a dance recital, so she said I could go because I am small and I don't eat much and I like adventures.

I've been having fun - I got to go through a coal mine near a place called Drumheller. (I rode in Brooke's daddy's pocket, because I am very small and I might fall into a hole.)

I like the mountains, and I like the sidecar, but I do miss Brooke very much and I am looking forward to seeing her again soon and telling her more about all the things I have seen and done.
